Purchasing Auto Insurance

When it comes to purchasing auto insurance, it is important to remember that good coverage is essential. For instance, we recommend that customers have high lights of liability insurance to protect them in the event that they are at fault in an accident.

Coverage Recommendations

Comprehensive and Collision

We also recommend Comprehensive and Collision coverage for most customers. Collision Coverage will pay for damages to your automobile, after a deductible, if you are at fault. Comprehensive Coverage protects you in the events of fire, theft, vandalism, and/or glass loss.

However, the amount paid will not exceed the actual cash value of the vehicle in most instances, unless you purchased a new car recently, and you added Replacement Cost Coverage to your policy. Some companies will not offer replacement cost coverage if your vehicle is over two-to-four years old.

Substitute Transportation

If you do not have access to another vehicle in your household, then you should consider adding Substitute Transportation Coverage.

Towing and Labor

Towing and Labor Coverage is also an option, and many people will opt out of it if they have an auto club. However, it is very expensive.

Property Damage

Property Damage Coverage protects you in the event that you damage another car or other property (like a fence, a house, a telephone, etc.). We recommend a minimum coverage of at least $200,000.

Optional Bodily Injury

Optional Bodily Injury Protects you in the event that you hurt another party, or parties, in an at-fault accident.

Compulsory Bodily Injury

Compulsory Bodily Injury Coverage is only $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident, therefore you should consider at least $250,000/$500,000 for this coverage.

Underinsured and Uninsured Motorist

Underinsured and Uninsured Motorist Coverages protect you in the event that you are injured by another driver who has no insurance or low limits. We recommend that you have limits on these coverages that match the Optional Bodily Injury Coverages.

Umbrella Policy

You should also consider an Umbrella Policy that adds at least a minimum of $1,000,000 of liability protection (if you qualify) over your auto policy limits.

Please make sure that you review your auto policy annually, to make sure that it provides you with the coverages that you need and want. The worst time to find out that you are inadequately insured is at the time of a claim.

Finally, if you combine your home and auto policies with one of our companies, you may qualify for substantial discounts on both policies. This is just another way for us to offer you the best coverages at a really competitive cost.
